The Goddess Eir is a quiet Goddess. Mostly known as one of Frigga's handmaidens, little is documented about Eir other then what is found in The Prose Edda, and Svipdagsmal, by Snorri.
What is written about her is mostly intuited by those who think of her as one of their Guides, like myself.
Frigga has four Handmaidens. Fulla is the prayer messenger. We look to her for guidance and intercession. Gna, is another messenger Goddess. She is responsible for getting messages over water and through the air on her magickal horse, Hoof-Flourisher. Hiln is the Goddess of protection. She takes care of and keeps safe those men that Frigga has asked protection over. Hiln is also here to help mourners, "kiss away the tears." Last, but not least, The Goddess, Eir. Eir is the Goddess of healing. (1) She teaches her healing to women only.
The Goddess Eir is also the Patron for health care workers. KveldulfR Gundarsson tells us that, " Eir is a Goddess who prefers the gentler and slower methods of healing." Such as those mentioned above.

Frigga's Handmaidens Unknown artist (possibly Waterhouse)
It is said that the Goddess Eir lives on Mt. Lyfia where she works on healing mind, body and spirit. Using many magickal and natural techniques, Eir is able to provide healing to those that are in need. She also teaches her knowledge to women who are patient enough to wait and listen to her. Eir uses magickal herbs that she has found from all over the world, but this is not all, for to produce healing, one must invoke healing on all levels. With this in mind, The Goddess Eir will use Aromatherapy, Crystal Therapy, Stone Therapy, Counseling, and Chakra Balancing just to name a few alternative methods. Other methods that she has been known to use for healing are; Flower Essences, Herboloby, Shamanic Retrieval Techniques, and Massage. (2)
The Goddess Eir has several different ways of saying and pronouncing her name. A few of these are: Aer and Iaer. The Worterbuch, page 97 defines Eir's name as being derived from words meaning to honor or worship. The Norse noun, "eir" means graciousness, mildness. Related to it is the verb, eira which means to care for, to help or please.

One of the myths surrounding Eir told by Siegroa's personal revelation tells that; "Eir is an Elder Goddess. She was once in conflict with the male gods, a conflict resolved by the works of Sif, she is now especially championed by Thonar and Hoor. As a Goddess of healing, she cannot take revenge or become in involved in bloodshed. To obtain protection she could not afford Herself, she took refuge with Frigga and her women and lent Frigga her energies in Healing and Wortcunning. She may be called upon when there is need, for she will never stint her aid to any, be thay thrall or thane. Aesir of Overlord, an asks the same of her priestesses. Sigroa says that Eir wishes her priestesses to be chaste to aid the flow of the healing energies, and wants them to abstain from the flesh of animals, milk, alcohol and fruit when they call upon her. Also to be cleansed with smoke and sauna."
The Goddess Eir uses the Runes, Berkana, Laguz, and Uruz to represent her. Green and white are her sacred colors. Her Sacred animals are the Cow, Raven, and The Butterfly. The birch tree is her holy tree. Copper is her mineral.

Journey to Mt. Lyfia
Journey to Mt. Lyfia
By Lady Felina SunFox The Enchantress
As I began a study of basic Runes, little did I know that it was The Goddess Eir urging me to come unto her via these teachings. I am ever held in gratitude. As I write these words, a huge butterfly flits across the yard and in front of my window....

A Journey to meet the Lady, Eir
Carved Kenaz did I.
climbed through to the hallowed sky
seeking Mt Lyfia, on high.
The Goddess Eir I called upon
She graced me with her essence.
The sunlight shown upon her bronze tresses.
Raven lovingly pecks her silken cheek.
For a moment~
Eir and I are one
for time that is unknown
and cannot be calculated on this,
The earthly realm.
Her green eyes miss nothing as she transforms herself
unto me. Her words of knowledge and wisdom are profound.
Secrets that only we, the women shall know.
The wind whispers and rustles, and in a universal language that is timeless, Eir speaks to my soul~
"It is the women who heal. The women who bleed.
Come forth unto me and I shall give you these secrets.
Ladies of patience and quiet strength, I grace you with
all that is needed to heal mind, body and soul.
Listen to the whisper of the Birch, she tells all.
Copper, and rain, eases pain.
Green is the colour of health.
White is the purist energy form of wellness.
These are but a few secrets that I bare forth unto you.
I give you what I have on a journey to your own
healing. Only through death shall we be reborn. Only through
sleep shall the dreams come.
Fear not the journey, for it is the journey, not the destination that we seek.
Look unto the Mother for the medicines you need to heal. Listen to the winds,
seek the air and fire, for it is here you will find all that you need.
I am always at your beck and call, but I will only come when you are ready. Only The Gods and I discern that.
Be well, be ready and fear not, the earthly realm is only one part of your journey. The healing secrets that I reveal come from magickal places and people, I favour these answers unto you."
The winds stop and all is quiet. A butterfly lits on her pale hand. The Goddess Eir sits in quiet serenity, a trace of a smile crosses her beautiful face. I bow to Eir in gratitude. "Thank you my Lady, I gift you myself in service to you to bring healing through Shamanic healing and every other healing gift you have given me, in your name I shall repay to all women. This is my pledge."
Back through Kenaz I come,
the veil is sealed again.
I am home.
